Our research reflects our cross-disciplinary approach to addressing climate change. We work to improve scientific understanding of the causes and impacts of climate change. We develop new approaches to support science-based decision-making at all levels of society, informed by the social sciences and arts. We also conduct research to develop the next generation of renewable energy sources and sustainable materials, including solar, wind, and plastics.
We analyze diverse and inter-related aspects of Earth’s climate system. We research how climate change affects extreme precipitation, sea level rise, and heatwaves in several global regions.
In addition to the numerous courses and academic programs at UMass Lowell, we develop and research the impact of resources to educate and engage students, citizens, business leaders, and policymakers beyond the University.
From innovation and renewable energy technologies, to analyzing the role of interactive art and communication, our scholarly work is helping to build a sustainable future.
