George Joseph

George Joseph is an Associate Professor of accounting in the College of Management.

In addition to his Chartered Accountancy professional certification, he has a Ph.D. in Accounting from Temple University and an MBA from Pittsburgh State University. His teaching areas are Managerial and Cost Accounting. He has developed courses integrating accounting with globalization and sustainability issues including environmental sustainability.

Current research interests include cost systems, strategic cost management and sustainability. He has made several research presentations at National and Regional conferences of the American Accounting Association and published a number of research articles and cases in such journals as Advances in Public Interest Accounting, Critical Perspectives in Accounting, Management Accounting Quarterly, Accounting Education: An International Journal and Journal of Business Research. Most recently, he has published award-winning cases on the role of accounting in supporting sustainability initiatives.

Dr. Joseph is a Chartered Accountant from India with work experience in professional accounting firms (including Coopers and Lybrand Indian affiliates) and in industry. Prior to joining UML, he taught managerial accounting and systems courses at Savannah State University, Temple University and Spring Arbor University. Professor Joseph is widely traveled, is active in the community and has a range of interests, particularly music and reading.
