It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of David Lustick, Associate Professor of Mathematics & Science Education in the Graduate School of Education.
David was a cherished steering committee member of the CCI and a nationally recognized leader in climate change education.
He brought a warm, open sense of curiosity to our efforts together, as well as wisdom and a bit of humor. Despite the fact that climate change is often not the cheeriest of topics, David brought a sense of optimism and hope to his work around it. He often commented ‘we’ll bring more people to care about this issue with honey than with vinegar.’
In 2015, David was recognized by the Obama administration as a “champion of change” for his efforts in leading a $2.2 million public education campaign on global climate change. His research projects on climate change include Science to Go (see poster example in featured image) and Cool Science.
He was an innovative and committed leader in his field and he will be sorely missed.
In recognition of David’s commitment and service to science and climate change education, the 2016 Climate Change Teach-In is named in his honor.
